Sheet Piling

With over 15 years experience, starting in the temporary works design and supply sector of the industry, to the installation of sheet piling, using a wide range of techniques, DWM look at all schemes using the knowledge, with an understanding of what is required to be constructed following the sheet piling operations.

Sheet piling can offer a solution for earth or water retention problems in either temporary or permanent structures. With a wide and varied range of installation techniques, the correct application can be applied to practically any situation. With advances in modern plant and technology, new and improved methods of sheet piling techniques are being developed and used to install sheet piles in locations and ground conditions that previously would of required a costly and time consuming alternative.

The criteria to choosing the correct technique will be based on site-specific strategies ranging from silent/vibration-less piling for environmentally sensitive locations, side grip technology for restricted accesses, traditional or conventional methods such as gates and trestles for marina works and the most commonly used telescopic leader rig. DWM Plant Limited is fortunate to be able to undertake any of the techniques offering a comprehensive temporary/permanent works design service followed by installation by our fully CPCS / CSCS trained operatives. Options available as below.

Side Grip Technology

This method is used when excavator reach is an issue. This technique allows the work to be undertaken from a lower working level to the finished top of pile level. The side grip nature of the Movax allows the rig to handle pitch and drive sheet piles up to 12m long.

Conventional Piling Works

Installation of sheet piles uses the traditional method known as ‘conventional piling’. This method consists of temporary gates and spud piles to form guides for the sheet piles to be installed. These will tend to be used when access is not possible for plant or rigs.

Silent/Vibration-less Techniques

As the description of the technique suggets, silent/vibration-less installations are required in sensitive built-up environments or where vibration could cause damage to existing structures such as houses, railways or commercial properties. A pressing system can be adopted minimising both noise and vibration.

Domestic Flood Protection Works

Using modern piling materials and scheme specific installation techniques, sheet piled walls can be utilised to provide an effective barrier against potential floods.

Steel Fabrication & Welding

We can offer a wide range of products competitively priced, promptly delivered and expertly installed. Our reputation has been built on quality workmanship and reliability.

Telescopic Leader Rigs

Telescopic leader rigs are the most commonly used item of plant for installing sheet piles due to their all-round performance in conjunction with the vibratory hammer and auger drive unit. These rigs can handle pitch and drive sheet piles up to 20m long.

King Post

King Post and Infill panel systems can be used where ground conditions dictate. Should the sheet pile be unable to penetrate the anticipated ground, the ground can be drilled, allowing a post to be installed at predetermined centres and in-filled with a panel lining system.
